Simon Community: One in three worried about lack of afforable homes

New figures show almost one in three people are worried about the lack of affordable homes to buy or rent.

The Simon Community says 31% are also concerned about the impact high rental costs are having on people's ability to eat and heat their homes.

It says over 6,500 people are trapped in emergency accommodation - an increase of 40% on the previous year.

The organisation says people are being pushed over the edge into homelessness.

Niamh Randall is National Spokesperson for the Simon Communities: "We also see that 32% are concerned about the number of people sleeping rough and 27% are worried about the impact of homelessness on people's health.

"So clearly these figures demonstrate how vulnerable people feel about their own housing issues but also how concerned they are about the housing and homelessness crisis that has gripped the entire country."
