Waterford gardaí investigate city-centre assault

Gardaí are investigating a serious overnight assault in Waterford City.

The incident happened on John Street last night at around 11.30pm.

He is in a serious condition at UHW; stabbed while queueing to get into a night club in the Johnstown area shortly before 11pm last night.

A row happened while he was in the queue and he was assaulted by two men, one of whom Gardai say stabbed him a number of times in stomach

Gardaí attended the scene and found an 18-year-old man lying on the path at John Street.

He was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital, and has undergone surgery.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses in particular anyone who may have been in John Street/John Bridge area of Waterford last night between 11pm and midnight to contact them on 051 - 305300, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
