Puppies rescued from metal containers in Dublin Port

Fourteen puppies were seized this morning by gardaí at Dublin Port.

They were found in the boot of a car without water, food or ventilation and were destined to be illegally exported into the UK.

The puppies, of various breeds, were all contained in two small metal containers.

The car was being driven by a man in his early 20s.

No valid documentation were produced and the dogs were seized for alleged cruelty.

It is believed the value of the dogs exceeds €17,000. They were healthy but will require monitoring for a number of days and will then be put forward for adoption.

The D.S.P.C.A. was contacted and the puppies are now in their care and receiving immediate veterinary care.
