Campaign urges return to 'student digs' to combat accommodation shortage
Dublin residents are being encouraged to rent out their spare rooms as student digs in an effort to tackle Dublin's accommodation crisis.
A new campaign by UCD and Trinity Students' Union, along with Daft.ie, is highlighting the fact that landlords who rent out a room can earn up to €12,000 a year, tax free.
TCD Students' Union President Kieran McNulty says it can be a positive experience for both landlord and tenant.
"Accommodation is quite restricted in Dublin, there's a lot of scrambling for beds, and it's really just about saying: 'Look, if you have a spare room, there's students here who would be more than happy to take them', and we've seen really positive experiences in the past," he said.
