Review may bring in coding as primary school subject

Coding may be introduced as a subject in primary schools.

A review of the primary school syllabus is underway, and coding could be introduced as part of the new maths curriculum.

The amount of time allocated to maths is also to be examined.

At the moment three hours a weeks are set aside for maths with two and a half hours allocated to religion.

The National Council for Curriculum Assessment will make a recommendation to the Minister for Education on the issue later this year.
