Update 2.52pm: A man has been airlifted to University Hospital Limerick after a road accident in Co Clare.

The two other people also hurt in the collision are understood to be in a stable condition.

Earlier: Emergency services are at the scene of a serious traffic accident in west Clare.

The N68 Ennis-Kilrush Road remains closed this lunchtime, following the accident at Cranny Cross on the Kilrush side of Lissycasey.

The collision occurred before noon, and it is understood that three people have been injured, though the extent of their injuries remains unclear at this stage.

Gardaí were called to the scene, along with ambulances and three units of the fire service from Kilrush.

Gardaí say the road will remain closed until further notice.
