Organ donor awareness week urges people to be vocal about their wishes

We are being urged to speak with our families about our organ donation wishes.

Around 550 people in Ireland are waiting for life-saving transplants on this organ donor awareness week.

Twenty-nine year old Aoife Murray from Dublin was diagnosed with Auto Immune Hepatitis when she was just 12 years old - she received a new liver in October.

Aoife is urging you to have a conversation about donation with your family: “It’s not just enough to carry your donor card anymore,

“You need to sit down and speak to your family and make them aware of your wishes because in the event of an accident or a tragedy or something like that they are ultimately the people who are going to be making this decision.

“And if you haven’t spoken to them and if you haven’t told them what your wishes are then they won’t know.”
