Two arrested after robbery of elderly man in Co Monaghan

Gardaí have arrested two men following the robbery of an elderly man in Co Monaghan.

Just before 5pm this evening a jeep signalled for the 86-year-old man to stop his car near Scotch Corner in Co Monaghan.

When the man pulled over the thief claimed to be a Garda. He then proceeded to steal the elderly man's wallet and left the scene in a jeep.

Gardaí say the jeep, which was stolen, was later located at Corlust, Castleshane, in Monaghan and a man in his 50's was arrested.

A second man, in his 40's, was arrested afterwards near Castleblayney.

Both are currently detained at Monaghan Garda Station.
