Man arrested in armed raid investigation

A man has been arrested following an armed raid, which was stumbled upon by the Health Minister Leo Varadkar.

On Monday evening a grocery shop at the Carpenterstown Shopping Centre in Dublin West was held up by two men brandishing a sword and a gun.

A number of election candidates, including Leo Varadkar, arrived at the centre whilst campaigning, just in time to see the raiders escape.

Detectives have they got away with cash from the tills and personal property from several customers.

Gardaí are now questioning a 21-year-old man over the raid.
