A man has appeared in court charged in connection with the death of Dublin man Kenneth O'Brien whose torso was found in the canal in Co Kildare last month.

48-year-old Paul Wells from Barnamore Park in Finglas appeared before Cloverhill District Court this morning for a short hearing.

He is charged with the father-of-one's murder.

Garda Sergeant Gerard Moore told the Judge that bail ‘was not an option’ in the district court, as it can only be dealt with at the High Court.

Paul Wells was further remanded in custody and is due back in court on the March 16.
