Alan Shatter tables Dáil motion calling for Ibrahim Halawa's release

A Dáil motion has been tabled calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Ibrahim Halawa.

The young Irishman has been in prison in Cairo since August 2013. His trial has been deferred on numerous occasions.

Former Justice Minister Alan Shatter has tabled a Dáil motion. However, depending on when the general election is called, it may not be put before the house.

The Halawa family is urging TDs to adopt the motion and for the Dáil to treat the matter with urgency before it dissolves.
