Parts of the country on flood alert; river level rises 8cm in three days at Athlone

Areas along the River Shannon are said to be on alert for further flooding following severe rain over the last 24 hours.
Water levels in the Athlone area have already increased by 8cm since Wednesday.
A yellow rainfall warning for Munster and Leinster has now ended, but communities are monitoring flood defences around the clock.

It is predicted that water levels will rise by 10cm in the coming days.
AA Roadwatch has reported flooding on some roads, including in Co Carlow , Co Limerick and Co Louth.
LIMERICK: There's spot flooding on the Killmallock/ Lees Cross Rd (R518) and, further along, on the Lees Cross/ Newcastle West Rd (R520).

Clare County Council and Limerick City and County Council have received confirmation from the ESB of its decision to increase the flow rate at Parteen Weir by 35 cubic metres of water per second (cumecs) from 335 cumecs to 370 cumecs.

The councils said that water levels have risen on Lough Derg, located on the lower River Shannon.

The short term outlook is for further heavy rainfall over the weekend and during the early days of next week.
