Eating fish while pregnant can benefit the child, experts say
Women who eat fish while pregnant will have brainier children, according to new research.
A seminar on the health of mothers and babies has heard women should eat fish at least twice a week during their pregnancy in order to get the full benefits.
Those babies will have better developmental outcomes as a result.
Experts also say the benefits of fish consumption for pregnant women outweigh any negative effects from contamination of fish by mercury or other substances.
A wide variety of fish is recommended as part of a healthy diet.
Predatory fish, such as shark, tuna or swordfish tend to have the highest levels of mercury.
