New European law giving more rights to victims of crime comes into effect
A new European directive comes into force today that will give more rights to the victims of crime.
Victims will have a greater right to information, support and protection.
Changes to the law for victims will come into affect Europe-wide today, meaning the extra resources will also be available for victims of the tragedy in Paris.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has welcomed the changes.
People can now request a reason for non-prosecution in a case by the DPP on any cases from today.
