Roche workers look for company meeting as 240 jobs at risk
A union representing workers at the Roche pharmaceutical company in Co Clare is demanding a meeting with senior management, after the company announced their plan to exit the facility.
The future of 240 employees is unknown after the company announced plans concerning its site at Clarecastle near Ennis.
Staff were informed of the company's decision yesterday evening.
The company has operated in Clarecastle since 1974.
Another buyer for the pharmaceutical plant is being sought before the company winds down its operations in 2018 or at the start of 2019.
SIPTU represents 100 employees at the company.
Sector Organiser with SIPTU Alan O'Leary said they wanted to use this time to discuss options with management.
"Thee is certainly time there, and we want to use it as best possible to put forward an alternative plan, if that's something the company would consider," he said.
"We have to get into these discussions as soon as possible."
