Handguns 'can be hired for €200, machine guns for €500' in Dublin, says TD Grealish
The Garda Commissioner Nóirín O'Sullivan has said she is not aware that people can hire a gun for €200 in Dublin.
Commissioner O'Sullivan (pictured) was taking questions from TDs and Senators at the Justice Committee this afternoon.
Independent TD from Galway Noel Grealish said he had heard there was a "gun-for-hire" culture in Dublin where a handgun could be secured for €200 and a machine gun for €500.
The Commissioner said she was "certainly aware of the availability of firearms, but not to that extent...It's something we monitor carefully."
She added that this year alone, the Gardaí had seized more than 500 firearms, some of them very high-powered weapons.
