Dublin City Council selects sites for Ireland's first modular homes
Dublin City Council has selected five possible sites to house Ireland's first modular homes.
22 are to be delivered by the end of the year with another 128 to be fast-tracked soon after.
The prefabricated houses will be located in Poppintree in Ballymun, Mourne Road in Crumlin, Belcamp Avenue in Coolock, St Helena's drive in Finglas and Cherry Orchard in Ballyfermot.
It is not yet clear how many homes will go on the proposed sites.
Independent Councillor for Dublin's North Inner City Christy Burke says it is a temporary measure for a very serious problem.
"They are a temporary measure for a serious situation and the long term effect has to be the building of long-term social housing.
"We went to visit them, I spent three hours visiting them, it gives families their dignity and their integrity.
"They might not be the best in the world but they will do so that we can get the building programme off the ground, up and running, and take people out of hotels and B&Bs."
