IFA's Pat O'Flaherty questions the WHO classification of processed red meats

A World Health Organisation warning about processed meat has been branded as crazy by meat producers here.

The IFA's Pig Chairman says the organisation is not concerned by the WHO classification of processed red meats as 'carcinogenic to humans'.

The World Health Organisation says there is a clear link between eating too much of it and bowel cancer.

However Pat O'Flaherty Chair of the IFA Pigs Committee is questioning the results.

"Ah they're a bit crazy really, I mean the first thing I'd like to say is colorectal cancer rates are the same in vegetarians as they are in meat-eaters, those findings are out there and they are proven so I do question the results of what they're talking about."
