Justice Minister defends Gardaí against mole claims
The Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald has said there is no evidence that there is a senior Garda in the force is acting as a mole for the IRA.
It was reported last weekend that a top level investigation is underway to determine if an officer is working for the Provisionals in the border area.
Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald said so far there is no evidence, but if anyone has information they should come forward.
“I saw that report in one of our newspapers, I have had no evidence presented to me by the Garda Commissioner that is the situation but obviously, if anybody has evidence in relation to that it should be provided, that would be a most serious allegation.
“At present I have no evidence that has been brought to my attention, but of course the Garda Commissioner will investigate.”
