Carrickmines candlelight vigil to be held tonight
A candlelight vigil will be held tonight at the scene of a fatal fire in Carrickmines that claimed the lives of 10 members of the one family.
Five children were among the dead after the blaze broke that destroyed a halting site on the Glenamuck Road in South Dublin last Saturday.
The survivors were back in the news yesterday after it emerged they had been stopped from entering emergency accommodation nearby.
A group of locals used their cars to block the entrance to a temporary site on Rockville Drive which had been donated by the local council.
Residents claim they want a permanent re-homing solution for their new neighbours, but Geraldine Dunne from the Southside Travellers Action Group says that is not realistic: “We would love to see the accommodation needs being met, better than what is in place now, but unfortunately at this present moment, that is the only option available to the family and they are happy with that option for now," Ms Dunne said.
“It is temporary and I would really and truly hope that the residents would have a change of heart and support these families.”
