A man has died in hospital following an alleged assault in Cork city last week.

It happened on Lower Oliver Plunkett Street at around 2pm on Thursday, September 10.

The 37-year-old man was treated at the scene for his injuries and was then brought to Mercy University Hospital where he died yesterday.

A post mortem is being carried out today and Gardaí say the results of which will determine the course of their investigation.

Anyone with any information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station.
