Pensioner dies after car enters floodwaters on Achill Island

An investigation is underway into the death of a man whose car entered floodwaters on Achill Island last night.

It happened at around 10pm last night at Dugort on the island.

The 82-year-old was alone in the car at the time.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, and a post mortem is due to be carried out at Mayo General Hospital.

Gardaí are investigating.
