ASGI demands more resources for rural areas
The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors (ASGI) is calling on the Minister for Justice to prioritise Garda resources in this year's Budget following an increase in crime - particularly in rural areas.
The most recent CSO figures show that there were 420 crimes a month reported on farms throughout the country in the first half of 2014.
The AGSI says is now looking for a legitimate policing authority in order to provide a more robust service.
It comes as the passing out ceremony takes place for 100 student Gardaí in Templemore today.
