Police in the North have said they would support an independent assessment of paramilitary groups in Northern Ireland after IRA members shot a man dead.

The Irish Government and the DUP have also supported some form of monitoring of the ceasefires after a killing by individuals from the Provisional IRA shook the political institutions.
