Paul Murphy accuses Gardaí of political policing after fundraising ban in Tallaght

The Anti-Austerity Alliance claims it has been banned from fundraising in one area of Dublin because of its boycott of water charges.

It says they have been refused permission for street collections in Tallaght, on the grounds that the proceeds would be used to encourage the commission of an unlawful act.

The Anti Austerity Alliance is accusing the Gardaí of political policing over the issue.

A Garda spokesperson has said they do not comment on individual cases.

TD Paul Murphy claims it is also connected to the Jobstown protest.

He said: "I don't think it is an accident that the refusal is coming in Tallaght, obviously it's where the Jobstown protest happened in November of last year which people are facing serious criminal charges in relation to.

"It is really unreasonable interference in the democratic process to stop a political party collecting money."
