Successful mountain rescue in Conemara National Park

Galway Mountain Rescue Team with support from the Sligo based Irish Coastguard Helicopter completed an operation this afternoon to rescue an injured hillwalker from Diamond Hill in the Conemara National Park, Letterfrack, County Galway.

The 26-year-old German man was descending the mountain when he suffered an injury to his left knee.

Park staff were alerted and they requested mountain rescue assistance as the incident occurred just below the summit of the mountain.

The team deployed to assist the injured hillwalker shortly before 4pm and he was treated on-scene before transfer to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar by the Sligo based Coastguard helicopter "Rescue 118".

The team was subsequently stood down and has returned to base.
