Sinn Fein says it's confident that a new Garda assessment of the Provisional IRA, will confirm that that group no longer exists.

Frances Fitzgerald has asked the Garda Commissioner to work with the PSNI to examine the status of the IRA, in light of the investigation into the murder of Kevin McGuigan.

The PSNI today arrested a 47 year old man in connection with the murder, the eleventh person to be questioned.

Fianna Fail Senator Thomas Byrne says the issue of IRA activity needs to be addressed by the Irish and British governments: "The police have said things that they haven't said in a number of years and I think that instead of citicising everbody who asks questions about this…"

"Everybody particularly the two governments need to get together to set out a statement of what exactly is meant by the democratic process, what exactly is meant by the peace process, what is actually acceptable in the democratic and peace process."
