Galway fisherman dies after accident on trawler

A fisherman has died in hospital after being overcome by fumes while working on a trawler in Co Donegal yesterday.

The 27-year-old man from Co Galway was cleaning tanks in a refrigeration unit when the incident happened in Killybegs.

A second fisherman, who is from the Philippines, was also overcome by fumes when he tried to help him. He remains in a critical condition at Letterkenny General Hospital.

Gardaí have launched an investigation and the Health and Safety Authority has been notified.
