Man dies following shooting incident in Co. Kildare

Gardaí have arrested a man in his early 40’s in connection with the investigation into the fatal shooting of a man in Athy, County Kildare this evening.

The arrested man is currently being detained at Kildare Garda Station.

Update at 8.15pm

A man in his early 20's has died after being shot at multiple times in Athy.

The incident occurred just after 5pm this evening, in the Greenhills area of the Kildare town.

The man was taken to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Offices of the State Pathologist have been notified and a post mortem is to be arranged.

Gardaí have sealed off the scene pending a technical examination and officers are understood to be carrying out searches tonight as part of their investigations.

No arrests have been made.
