Unite: Lansdowne Road Agreement 'doesn't go far enough'

Unite members are to start voting on proposals on the restoration of public pay from today.

The Lansdowne Road Agreement could see many low-paid public servants receive a graduated €2,000 pay increase.

Last week representatives unanimously decided to recommend a rejection of the Lansdowne Road proposals.

Richie Browne, Regional Coordinating Officer with Unite, said they are not advocating for pre-crash levels to be restored instantly, but this agreement does not go far enough.

He said: "There was no expectation that that would happen, but I think what is proposed in the Lansdowne Road Agreement doesn't go far enough and doesn't happen quickly enough.

"So nobody is expecting that everything that was lost under the previous agreements would be restored overnight.

"But certainly there was an expectation that more would come back a lot quicker and Lansdowne Road doesn't do enough, and it doesn't do it quick enough."
