Migrants rescued by LE Niamh 'heavily traumatised'

Aid workers say that 360 migrants rescued from the latest boat disaster were heavily traumatised and many could not communicate.

They were on a vessel which got into trouble off the coast of Libya on Wednesday, and many were rescued by the Irish Navy boat, the LE Niamh.

Only around 25 bodies have been found, but there are fears more than 200 others could have died.

Barbara Molinario, who is from the UN's refugee agency is in Italy and working with survivors, said: "They were heavily traumatised, some of them could not talk at all.

"It was very difficult to obtain any kind of testimonies, there was a lot of grief, a lot of desperation from mothers who had seen their children drown."
