Department refuses to comment on political interference allegations

The Department of Finance is refusing to comment on allegations by the former CEO of Anglo Irish Bank, Mike Aynsley, of political interference.

Mr Aynsley says the Department was annoyed with the bank after it sold an asset to a "named businessman", and wanted him excluded from further sales, even if it meant losing money for the taxpayer.

However, the Department of Finance said it does not comment on matters raised at the Banking Inquiry.

Finance Minister Michael Noonan is due to give evidence at the inquiry in September.
