A French national who caused the death of a mother-of-one after colliding with a Luas tram in Dublin last year has today been fined €4,000 for careless driving.

Quentin Hannezo (aged 31), with a previous address at Ha'penny Bridge House, Lower Ormond Quay, pleaded guilty to careless driving at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

The court heard that he broke a red traffic light in Dublin City Centre on April 7, 2014 and collided with an oncoming Luas before skidding on to the footpath where Yao Webster had been walking, killing her.

Judge Martin Nolan described the case as tragic and said there was no doubt that Hannezo would live with this for the rest of his life.
