Two arrested following seizure of drugs worth more than €160,000 in Meath

A man and a woman, both aged in their 20s, have been arrested after gardaí seized more than €160,000 worth of cannabis in county Meath.

The seizure, which occurred on Tuesday, was part of an intelligence-led operation conducted by personnel attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB), Revenue customs officers, and the Meath and Westmeath Divisional Drugs Units.

Gardaí conducted searches at two separate locations and seized a total of 11.5kg of herbal cannabis with an estimated street value of €161,000.

A man in his 20s was arrested by gardaí in relation to the seizure of 5.7kg of cannabis herb.

He was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in Meath.

He has since been charged and released to appear before Trim District Court at a later date.

A woman in her 20s was also arrested in connection with the seizure of 5.8kg of cannabis herb.

She was detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in Meath, but has also since been charged and released.

She will also appear before Trim District Court at a later date.

A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.
