Honda recalling hundreds of cars in Ireland over airbag concerns

Honda is recalling around 824 vehicles in Ireland over concerns about faulty airbags made by Takata.

More than 4.5 million vehicles are being recalled worldwide.

At least eight deaths have been linked to side air bag inflators which can explode, sending shrapnel into cars.

In Ireland, two models - the Jazz and the Insight, sold between the years 2007 to 2011 - are believed to be affected.

"At this point in time, we're obviously trying to identify exactly which cars are involved in this campaign," said after-sales director for Universal Honda in Ireland, John Donoghue.

"We have about 800 cars that are involved in the campaign, so within the next couple of weeks we'll be trying to identify which cars are affected by the campaign and we will then be contacting the owners by mail."
