Explosive device found in Longford tonight

The Army Bomb Disposal Team have rendered safe a viable device in Longford tonight.

Gardaí discovered the suspect device during a search of a vehicle on a rural road four kilometres outside Ballymahon.

The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team were deployed by the defence forces and a cordon and road closures were put in place for public safety.

The team arrived shortly after 9pm and the device was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion.

The scene was declared safe at 10.35pm.
