Dáil votes against separate Irish Water ombudsman

The Dáil has rejected an opposition bill which would have set up a separate ombudsman for Irish Water.

TDs voted 65 to 39 to oppose the bill tabled by independent TD Mattie McGrath.

The government parties opposed the bill, saying people with complaints about the water utility could already bring them to the Commission for Energy Regulation.
