SIPTU calls on public to join rally outside Clerys

SIPTU is today calling on members of the public to come out in force for a rally in support of Clerys workers this afternoon.

The union will meet with the department store's liquidators this morning ahead of the demonstration on Dublin's O'Connell street at noon.

Workers say they have yet to be informed of their redundancy terms.

SIPTU organiser Robert Purfield said that they need to know where they stand.

"The workers are looking for clarity, they want to meet the new owners," he said.

"They haven't heard a word from them and they want a bit of dignity and respect in how they're treated.

"I mean, to come in and take over a company and then not talk to the workers is really very bad form and disgraceful from the new owners."
