Three men bailed after €1m cannabis haul

Three men have been granted bail after they were charged over a €1m cannabis seizure in Dublin.

The men had been arrested on yesterday following a joint investigation by the Garda Organised Crime Bureau and the Revenue Customs Service.

Gavin Mulvey, 34, with an address at Kiltalown Road, Tallaght, Jonathan Carberry, 34, from Marfield Green also in Tallaght and Elliot Kidd, 24, from Mabel St in Dublin 3 were remanded on bail today.

They had been brought before Judge Anthony Halpin at Dublin District Court after they were charged with possessing cannabis with intent to supply at Bath Lane in the city centre on June 11.

They had been held at Store Street and Mountjoy Garda stations in Dublin city centre prior to their court appearance today.

The court heard Mr Kidd and Mr Mulvey made no reply when charged and Mr Carberry's response was “no comment”.

Det Gda Rebecca Daly said the case involved a considerable seizure that was estimated to be worth about €1m.

No plea was entered and the three men were ordered to appear again next Friday. Meanwhile directions from the DPP need to be obtained.

Father-of-three, Mr Mulvey was allowed bail in his own bond of €500, with one of his friends acting as an independent surety in the sum of €5,000. A decision on whether he will be allowed legal aid was deferred after the court was told he is in employment and he was ordered to furnish a statement of his means.

The co-defendants were granted free legal aid.

Mr Carberry's bail was set in his own bond of €500 and one of his relatives acted as an independent surety. All three have been ordered to surrender their passports and to sign on regularly at their local garda stations.

Mr Kidd's bail was set at €2,500 and he was also told that he has to abide by a curfew from 10pm to 7am daily.
