399 migrants on Irish Navy vessel after Mediterranean rescue

Irish Navy Vessel, the LÉ Eithne, has rescued migrants in the Mediterranean on two inflatable dinghys with 89 people on board.

The migrants were located 75 kilometres north of Libya.

There are now 399 migrants on the LE Eithne; 280 men, 78 women and 41 children.

Earlier today Médecins Sans Frontièrs crew members also rescued 2,000 migrants - the largest operation to date.
