The severe weather conditions did not deter the thousands of athletes from participating in two marathon events in Dublin and Cork today.

Almost 40,000 runners took part in the Women's Mini Marathon in Dublin, which kicked off at 2pm.

Maria McCambridge has already been announced as the winner with a time of 34 minutes 3 seconds.

Earlier, the Cork marathon was won by Cillian O'Leary, while Nollaigh Hunter was the first woman across the finish line.
