No group claims there is a 'climate of fear' ahead of referendum

A spokesperson for Mothers and Fathers Matter says some of their supporters are afraid to publicly take a stance on the Marriage Equality Referendum.

The group says a climate of fear surrounding the vote on Friday has damaged Ireland's democracy.

The organisation has launched a new video in which two gay men outline their reasons for voting No on Friday.

Spokesperson Paddy Manning says No voters are being intimidated.

Mr Manning said: "That climate of fear of course just doesn't apply to gay men, it is everywhere in this country.

"Voters are being intimidated, people are not allowed to state an opinion, I've had Oireachteas members tell me that they are afraid to speak out.

"This campaign has been incredibly damaging for Irish democracy."
