An investigation is underway after a fire claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman at a house in Dublin this morning.

An investigation is underway after a fire claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman at a house in Dublin this morning.

Gardaí in Kevin St were alerted to the fire on St Malpas Place, Clanbrassil Street, shortly after 7am.

Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was taken from the house and brought to St James Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

There was no one else in the house at the time of the fire.

The house has been preserved for a technical examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Kevin Street Garda Station on 01 6669400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.
