Protestors block Tanaiste's car after meeting in North Dublin

Gardaí were needed to clear the way and allow Tanaiste Joan Burton's car to leave a public meeting in Dublin tonight.

A small number of protestors blocked the Tanaiste's car after a referendum meeting in Whitehall in North Dublin, with Gardai having to intervene to allow the car to leave.

Around 30 protestors then engaged in a brief standoff with Gardaí, refusing to allow them to leave the scene.

A small number of anti-austerity protestors had earlier attended the meeting on the marriage referendum, walking out in protest as the Tanaiste began to speak.
