Offaly homes evacuated after 'viable' device found

A number of houses were evacuated in Co Offaly this afternoon, after a viable device was found.

The bomb squad was called in to deal with the Improvised Explosive Device.

A number of houses were evacuated and a cordon and road closures were put in place.

The device was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion and it was taken away for further examination.
