Fiann Fáil to launch drugs plan today

Fianna Fáil is today publishing its National Drugs Action Plan.

The party said the Government has been responsible for drastic cuts to drugs taskforces, as well as the Garda Drugs Unit.

It said there is now a growing crisis of drugs and alcohol abuse in communities across the country.

Fianna Fail Senator Darragh O'Brien says the battle against drugs is being lost.

"This problem is running on ahead, and we're losing the battle against drugs and alcohol abuse," he said.

"It's not just in our urban areas, in our rural areas as well. We're not giving it the due regard that's needed, and we're not actually tackling it."
