Irish people to munch 2,100 tonnes of chocolate this Easter
Chocoholics are being reminded to recycle the packaging from their Easter Eggs this weekend.
Last year, Irish householders generated over 19,337 tonnes in packaging.
It is expected Easter egg sales will top over €36m this year - as we chomp through more 17 million eggs. That's eight per household - up from six per household in 2013 - 2,100 tonnes of chocolate.
According to Repak, 1 in 5 people will spend up to €30 on Easter Eggs.
Consumers are also being encouraged to enjoy the Easter holidays in an active and healthy way.
A 200 gram egg is reported to have up to 1,000 calories in it.
Instead of getting Easter eggs, families are instead being encouraged to get outside for the weekend, or incorporate art into the celebrations by painting and decorating eggs.
