Pair rescued from island after becoming trapped by tide
Two people have been rescued from an island off the west coast after they were cut off by the tide.
The man and woman had scrambled across rocks to reach Green Island off the Clare coast at around 4pm.
The island is located between Spanish Point and Lahinch and is popular with anglers.
The pair made their way out to the island but were cut off by the incoming tide before they realised it. They managed to raise the alarm by calling 999 using a mobile phone.
The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard sent two rescue boars to the scene while other personnel travelled to the area by road.
Rescue teams quickly located the pair and took them on board a rescue boat. They were transported back to Liscannor Pier and assessed to ensure they didn’t require medical assistance.
The pair were said to be cold and shaken by the incident but required no additional assistance.
