Dwyer defence says jury must ask: 'Is this fantasy or reality?'

Defence lawyers for Graham Dwyer are asking the jury at his murder trial to resolve whether text messages about raping and stabbing women were fantasy or reality.

The architect of Kerrymount Close, Foxrock denies killing childcare worker Elaine O'Hara at Killakee Mountain in Dublin in August 2012.

The prosecution alleges Graham Dwyer was in a BDSM relationship with Elaine O'Hara and that he stabbed her to death at Killakee to satisfy a deep-seated sexual desire.

But in his final address to the jury, defence barrister Remy Farrell has said the forensics in the case are all out of whack.

He says nothing arising from the analysis of Elaine O'Hara's skeletal remains in 2013 suggests foul play.

He has also dismissed the idea that the childcare worker was groomed for suicide by pointing to many earlier attempts on her own life.

Referring to the stories about rape and stabbing found on the architect's hard drive and also to the many texts he is alleged to have sent Elaine O'Hara, Mr Farrell has asked the jury to resolve the question - 'Is this fantasy or reality?'.
