The Injuries Board has said the average award last year dropped slightly on 2013, to €22,642.

That was a drop of €205 from last year's figure.

The largest award in 2014 was for an employer liability claim, and was for more than €972,000.

In its annual review, the Injuries Board said motor accidents accounted for three in four awards.

Employer liability awards, which make up only 7.5% of the total, accounted for both the highest average and the single highest award in 2014.

Public liability claims made up 17% of total awards, with an average payout of €24,677.

InjuriesBoard.ie is the Government body which makes personal injury awards.
